Catharsis Bookends belong to the Catharsis Collection and explore transformation through fracture and recomposition of matter, drawing from the Latin meaning of catharsis as purification through release. When placed side by side, the two elements evoke the silhouette of a mountain peak, a form that appears unified while remaining inherently irregular.

The set is composed of two independent sculptural elements, designed to function both as bookends and as standalone objects:

  • two sculpted mineral stone forms, conceived as complementary fragments.

Each element is developed as part of a continuous material formation, rather than assembled or carved from a predefined block. The resulting geometry retains irregular textures, fissures, and internal tensions, allowing the surface to express the conditions of its formation.

The stone draws inspiration from Roman mineral craftsmanship traditions and is developed through proprietary mineral-based processes, without cement or synthetic binders. Unlike subtractive carving approaches, the form is first generated through a controlled, continuous formation of material, requiring precision and timing before any refinement takes place.

Surface intervention remains minimal: the stone is only slightly shaped, preserving the raw material presence. Surface protection is achieved through layered natural oil treatments, manually applied and allowed to cure slowly over time. No synthetic sealants or industrial coatings are used.

Over time, the oil may continue to be absorbed by the mineral body, allowing the surface tone to become slightly lighter while maintaining structural integrity.

Each piece is individually crafted. Variations in shape, surface, and proportion are an essential part of the work and reflect its fully handcrafted nature.
