Rooted in the ancient meanings of the word catharsis — from the Greek ritual of purification to the emotional release found in art and psychoanalysis — this collection explores transformation through form.
In classical tradition, catharsis referred to the act of purging both body and soul of impurities. In aesthetics, it became the process through which art helps us understand and transcend human emotion. In psychoanalysis, it’s a release — a return to clarity through the confrontation of what lies buried.
These layered meanings inform the collection: sculptural vases, bowls, and bookends with bold silhouettes and fractured surfaces, capturing a sense of tension held in stillness. Each piece is hand-carved in Italy using our signature stone — a cement-free material composed of natural mineral fragments and botanical pigments, made as it was in the 1st century BC. The flame-worked glass evokes brokenness and light, like lava made solid.
Together, the forms express a raw yet refined intensity — an emotional presence shaped by hand, memory, and time.
Coki Barbieri realized this collection with high sustainability standard and natural materials, with the pieces formed through intersecting elements with no permanent joints, without using cement, resins, animal derivatives, industrial preservatives or any substance based on petroleum products. All stone parts are sculpted by Coki Barbieri, and all glass parts are made by our glassblowers. Each component is custom-made to fit the other, ensuring a perfect fit. The process involves six types of handwork, including solar drying and manual tools, with minimal use of electrical tools to reduce preparation time. The glass's clarity seamlessly combines with the stone's varying opacity and shine, which always has unique details, traces, holes, as it is made following the techniques of the ancient Romans, sustainably reusing Tuscan and Venetian rocks, without glues and cements.
